Special elections software: T2057, T2054 and other CRA elections, filed electronically
File section 85 rollovers, capital dividend elections and the other special elections and returns the CRA accepts through its Special Elections and Returns Service (SERS).
Who must file
A taxpayer or partnership making an election under the Income Tax Act — a section 85 transfer to a corporation (T2057, T2058) or to a partnership (T2059), a capital dividend (T2054), an excessive interest and financing expenses limitation (EIFEL) election, among others — files the election form with the CRA. SERS lets those forms be filed electronically rather than on paper.
Deadline
Each election has its own deadline. A T2057 is due by the earliest of the filing due dates of the parties' income tax returns for the year of the transfer; a T2054 is due by the earlier of the day the dividend becomes payable and the first day any part of it is paid.

Frequently asked questions
Which forms can AuraTax file through SERS?
S89, T1521, T2054, T2055, T2057, T2058, T2059, T2107, T2123, T217, T2184, T2225 to T2229, T2311 and the UHT-2900.
Can a section 85 election (T2057) be filed electronically?
Yes. The CRA accepts the T2057 through SERS, and AuraTax prepares, validates and transmits it, so the election does not have to be mailed.
How much does it cost to file a SERS with AuraTax?
Preparing the return is free. You pay when you transmit it: one SERS return at a time, or every return of every program with the yearly licence. Both prices are shown on this page and on the pricing page, before taxes.
Can I file the SERS on a Mac or on Linux?
Yes. AuraTax runs in the browser, and the desktop app installs on Windows, macOS and Linux with the same programs, for files you prefer to keep on your own machine.
